Makeo Wong (2019)

Vancouver, BC

Makeo has been attending BC Christian Academy since kindergarten and is graduating with honours (at least a 90% academic average). Apart from being academically gifted, he is a dedicated student and has always treated academics very seriously. His post-secondary pursuits will be at SFU this September where he will follow his passion of computer studies and media as he enters the full-time Computer Science program.

Along with exceeding at academics at his school, he is very involved in the tech department, including taking, editing, and live streaming video for many of his high school events both inside and outside of his media studies elective. He has built his own computer from scratch and taken online programming classes.

In addition to all of that, he facilitates a leadership role in BCCA’s media studies class which is tasked with capturing school events and marketing projects for the school.

We look forward to seeing the amazing things the future holds for Makeo as he completes a bachelor’s in Computing Science and desires to specialize in the field of network security.

Kevin Li (2018)

Vancouver, BC

We at The White Hatter want to congratulate Kevin Li, the winner of the 2018 White Hatter Scholarship!  Kevin is a Grade 12 student at Fraser Heights Secondary School in Surrey, BC. He is enrolled in their Science Academy. This is a program where students are accelerated in their senior math and science courses so that they may take Advanced Placement Calculus and University Computer Science courses at Simon Fraser University - all in their Grade 12 year. Kevin has not only committed to this program, but he has also done exceptionally well. He achieved first class marks in Pre-Calculus 12, Chemistry 12, and Physics 12 and he is currently doing amazing work in AP Calculus BC, and Computer Science at SFU. Furthermore, Kevin is in charge of the Fraser Heights Information Technology club in which he helps maintain the technology at his school, including the creation and maintenance of the Fraser Heights Science Academy website.

Kevin’s required scholarship application package, especially his essay on the security challenges surrounding the Internet of Things, was absolutely spectacular and it really stood out to The White Hatter Team as a whole. It is for this reason that we are awarding Kevin with the 2018 White Hatter Scholarship. Our hope is that this scholarship will assist Kevin with some of the financial costs associated with attending the University of Waterloo, where he has been accepted into the Software Engineering Honors undergraduate program. Students like Kevin prove that we in good hands when it comes to the future of digital safety and security in our country.

Once again, the White Hatter Team would like to congratulate Kevin on winning this scholarship. And as a company, we are proud and honored to support Canadian teens who are looking to further their education in the area of digital safety and security.
